Role: Mission Designer
During the development of Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened, my primary responsibility was designing Chapters 4 and 5 of the main storyline, set in the humid, sweltering atmosphere of New Orleans. Beyond the main storyline, I also took ownership of The Other Gods, a side quest from The Whispered Dreams DLC, handling everything from the initial pitch to scripting and final implementation.
As the game was a remake, we already had an established storyline to build upon from the 2005 original. However, our goal was not simply to recreate it, but to refine and modernize the narrative and gameplay to deliver a more engaging experience. With this in mind, I began by working closely with the Narrative Design team to pitch and develop a reimagined version of the New Orleans chapters, approaching it from both storytelling and gameplay perspectives.
Our goal was to give players greater agency by making the investigation more non-linear, encouraging them to piece together clues and draw their own conclusions. To achieve this, we introduced new characters, developed branching dialogues, and incorporated multiple detective mechanics, allowing players to approach the investigation from different angles and uncover answers in their own way.
In the end, we preserved the key plot points of the original game while expanding the narrative to allow for deeper character development and more engaging storytelling. Most importantly, these changes helped us capture the essence of a true detective experience.
